| | | | first judges comments | | July 2012 | | Pizza Bar in Pakington Street West Geelong is a funky and stylish restaurant, reminiscent of cafes in Richmond. Perfectly suited to the style of food served and the customers it attracts. The menu looks so great it is hard to select a meal as there are many delicious things to choose from. Am I sure I want pizza, or do I want to try the Osso Buco, can I fit in a salad as well as the polenta chips, and then which pizza do I choose? The food at Pizza Bar is really good - great pizza of interesting combinations and fresh ingredients. Eventually I chose the polenta chips, crisp but light with a decadent gorgonzola sauce, and then went for the Osso Buco. Loved the caprese salad and polenta chips, wanted to try everything else! Then Pizzas were very good as well having generous toppings and crispy bases. The gluten free pizza is also a very good option to have on the menu.
There where heaps of wines available by the glass and quite a few Italian wines. I had the Stumpy Gully Sangiovese which was cheap, earthy and very drinkable. Good to go with pizza. I liked the tasting notes with the wines. They where very helpful. Service at Pizza Bar is quick and relaxed, and the restaurant busy and cheerful. My coffee was very nice, creamy, good temperature and had dark rich flavours. Pizza Bar is a really good pizza restaurant. They take their food seriously and everything is reasonably priced.
